There will be a new person waving the flags at Flat Track Canada events for 2019. After six years at the helm, head referee Mike Zelaska is relinquishing his position with the organization and will be moving to Manitoba to be closer to family. Zelaska, who was well liked by competitors, also spent many years as the man in charge on Friday nights at Paris Speedway. While stern when necessary, Zelaska earned the rider’s respect while maintaining a jovial demeanor on race days.
From Flat Track Canada President Aaron Hesmer: “It will be different without Mike. He’s been with us since day one and helped promote positive changes in our series. Family comes first at Flat Track Canada so we fully support his decision to move closer to his loved ones. We look forward to him visiting us at a race sometime this season. Thanks for everything Mike.”
With the departure of Zelaska, Hesmer sees no need to panic as there are qualified personal with the credentials to step into the void left by Zelaska.
