In front of a large crowd despite the ever changing weather conditions, Expert rider Don Taylor served notice that he has no intentions of giving up the number one plate he earned last year. Riding a bike prepared by Jim Sehl, Taylor blistered the field on Saturday in the Open Expert final that took place on the half mile at the Paris Fairgrounds. Chris Evans had an early lead in the Open final until the third lap in he realized he had no brakes, dropping him back to fourth. Steve Beattie and Tyler Seguin finished second and third respectively but they were not within shouting distance as the checkered flag flew for Taylor. In Expert Production Frame action New York native Ryan Wells took the win by a narrow margin over Tyler Seguin on probably one of the most exciting finishes of the day with Fred Duchesneau rounding out the top three.
Three riders on Saturday also had the honor of pulling the double as they managed to grab main event wins in both of the races they entered. Brodie Buchan was the class of the field in Intermediate action while Tyler Brown grabbed the checkers twice in the Novice division. Hunter Bauer also doubled up taking the victory on his 65cc machine and managed to squeak out a very exciting win over Dustin Brown in the 85cc. One of the most exciting races of the night and looks like more to come this season.
Dale Kennedy looked like a natural after getting back into the sport after a 14 year layoff. Steve Ball and Rick Gunby had a photo finish for second with the credit going to Gunby.
Alex Olsen came out okay with no broken bones after a horrific crash in turn 4. He said he’s pretty sore, and going to take a couple weeks to rest up.
