With weather threats all week and early morning the 3rd round of the Flattrack Canada Series, the race kind of seemed like it might have been cancelled due to too much rain. That didn’t seem to stop anyone. A large crowd and another huge turnout of riders proved that this Saturday was going to be another race day. Everyone being patient enough gave the WCMC track crew headed by former Speedway King Lightning Len Dillion. The track was prepped and put the FTC crew an hour and a half behind schedule. It was a major struggle but they managed to have the final race over by 11pm battling the time constraints.
The night showed some awesome racing and once again proved how exciting the new format can be. Every heat race in the Amateur and Expert classes seemed to be stacked with talent and 4 full heats in each class.
Hunter Bauer came out with some lap times on his 65cc that looked like some of the leaders of AM class winning his second FTC race of the season.
Open Amateur class showed that Joshua Barrick will be the man to beat at Welland. Very fast all night but he was chased down by Corbeil and Hoy which look like they’ll be battling the title out this year. A young Dustin Lambert looks like he has a very fast future in this class bringing home 4th.
Sam Manyon rounded out the top 5 in the AM class, but took home a big win in the VET class over Rick Gunby which stopped Rick’s winning streak. Rick at 63 still holds the points lead for the class!
Matty Ward seemed like he had been riding expert for awhile only managing to miss the front row by one spot bring home two second place finishes in the heats. Clayton Isherwood come out with a big win in the first round a fighting a spot from the LCQ into the final. The final was a feat in itself to make, 25 riders racing in which the top 10 made up the first 2 rows of the final, the top 5 from the LCQ transferred to the 3rd row in the final.
The big final which everyone was waiting for was introduced by a rider walkout and introduction. This showed that the 15 of hardest, fastest riders of the night were going to battle it out bar to bar and watching I didn’t the difference of a Flattrack Canada Race and AMA Grand National Championship. 18 laps, 15 riders and the most intense race action that a Welland Expert Main has ever seen, the fans that came to see this event got their monies worth!
Off the start bunching into the first corner seen Tyler Seguin go down hard, the red flag was dropped and Seguin headed to the back for the restart.
Race seen many, many battles from the front to the back, but Doug Lawrence seemed to get to an early lead and hold it well. Don Taylor, Welland King tried a couple of attempts but couldn’t put it together enough for DL. Tyler Seguin make a huge comeback from the back row and was in fourth place, with 3 laps to go he tried to make a pass on Ryan Wells for third and low sided coming out of turn 2. The race went on and Doug Lawrence took the checkers.
Thanks to everyone that supported the race & thanks to the WCMC for allow the race series to be a part of the Welland Venue.
