It is the end of an era for flat track fans and riders in Paris Ontario. After increasing pressure from unhappy residents, the last checkered flag has been thrown at Paris Speedway as motorcycles will not be returning to the small, purpose built track.
Paris Speedway was born in 1991 after Speedway fans Jim Hesmer, Dave Havill, and Joe Hesmer rolled up their sleeves and turned their vision into a reality. Originally built just for 500cc Speedway Bikes, smaller bikes soon followed and in 2010 450 DTX bikes were raced on the track for the first time. Always exciting, Paris Speedway has hosted a couple of rounds in the national series and proved to be an excellent track for youngsters to hone their skills.
With Paris Speedway in the history books, Flat Track Canada President Aaron Hesmer has secured a new facility to play at. Ancaster Fairgrounds will be the new playground for riders and Hesmer sees many positives in the change in venues. “Ancaster will give us the opportunity to race both indoors and outdoors so that is a huge bonus. They will have top notch equipment there for us to use and the new location is probably more central for many of our competitors than Paris was.”
The schedule will be spread over the year increasing some off season track time. More practice dates will be added after things kick into gear.
