On Thursday April 17th, Town Moto in Toronto hosted an evening with Flat Track Canada at the rustic Oz Studios. Along with Flat Track Canada, Town Moto sponsored Expert rider Doug Lawrence was also in attendance.
With about 40 guests on hand, Andrew McCracken from Town Moto took over as host for the evening. After a brief introduction to the sport of flat track, McCracken introduced Flat Track Canada president Aaron Hesmer. Hesmer gave a short account of his racing career and then went on to explain the vision that FTC has for the sport including attracting new riders, racing at new tracks, and gathering new corporate sponsors for the series. While only entering the second year of existence, FTC is growing by leaps and bounds but Hesmer indicated they have no thoughts of slowing down. With every person in attendance being a potential new rider, Hesmer informed them of the racing schools he will be hosting before giving everyone a free ticket to the first race of the season.
Lawrence entertained the guests with tales of the pitfalls and glory of chasing his dream both in Canada and the United States. As one of the top Expert riders here, Lawrence is in the unique position of also being the only Canadian that is currently racing on the complete A.M.A. circuit. During a short question and answer session, Lawrence talked about how he got started racing as well as the commitment that is needed for what he is doing now.
Special guest for the evening was Michael Wells from Motorsports Canada. Wells brought along a beautiful Zaeta motorcycle with him which received plenty of attention from the attendees. It was then announced that the Zaeta will be seen racing in FTC events this year and is currently the only one of its kind in North America.
The evening concluded with some great racing videos from the past season courtesy of Kyle Sheppard of Outlaw Productions.
Hesmer also announced that he and his staff are available for social events if you are interested in learning more about the sport of flat track.
